The Signed, Sealed and Delivered

The Signed, Sealed and Delivered

I’m happy without you.

It’s taken me six months to write those words.

I am more than you ever noticed.

It’s taken a dozen counseling sessions to know my worth.

Months spent worrying about you.

Only a drop of the guilt released when I prayed over the rosary.

Searching reflections in storefronts

Letting go of his hand slightly in case you saw me.

Realizing unhappiness was coming only from believing you might be unhappy,

The definition of love.

Swallowing new photos of everything you promised to do with me,

The definition of grace.

I’m happy without you.

It took only one flicker of passion in a stranger’s eyes.

I’m enough on my own,

It took only one step out of my house in my Louboutins you despised.

Realizing your acts of kindness were stealth weapons of control,

The definition of manipulation.

Layers of myself you claimed never existed being revealed,

The definition of authenticity.

Worrying about myself as the days progress,

Praying to the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Finding strength as my value is emphasized,

Holding his hand tighter as we drive along the coast.

I’m happy without you,

Experiencing butterflies, goosebumps and blushing.

I am my own person,

I don’t love you anymore, and this is my confession.
